"Tree-mendous" celebration brings learning to life
Iwakuni, Japan – M.C. Perry Primary School Universal Prekindergarten recently concluded an exciting Tree Study with a celebration that showcased creativity, family engagement, and meaningful learning.
Nearly every family joined in for a Tree Gallery Walk and a cozy Tree-ts Party, making this event a true reflection of the Creative Curriculum approach.
Throughout the study, children explored how trees grow, their parts, what lives in them, and how they connect to families. The culminating event allowed children to share their knowledge in authentic ways—through Family Tree Projects and tree-inspired art displayed in our hallway. This hands-on experience encouraged curiosity and creativity, key components of the Creative Curriculum.
The Tree Gallery Walk gave families an opportunity to admire their child’s work and engage in conversations about learning. Children proudly explained their projects, strengthening language skills and confidence while deepening home-school connections.
The “Tree-ts” Party—a picnic under the trees indoors—was a joyful way to end the study. Families brought favorite snacks and enjoyed time together, reinforcing the idea that learning is not just about knowledge, but about relationships and shared experiences.
This celebration wasn’t just an event—it was an intentional extension of learning that integrated family involvement, hands-on projects, and opportunities for reflection to create a rich environment that nurtures curiosity, creativity, and community.
